The Dragon in Lyonesse by Gordon Dickson

This book is the seventh in the Dragon Knight series. The protagonist is a college professor who was magically transported into a medieval society to rescue his wife. In this new world, he is also a magician. Over the series, his magical abilities have gradually been improving. This book takes him to Lyonesse, home of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
