Learning how things work

June 12, 2007

Big news! The boys have started to pee in the potty, as of last Thursday! They don’t use it all the time, but we are starting down that road.

Owen is very into learning how things work. We went to Buster’s, and the boys sat at the driving games. I decided to let them actually drive this time, so I gave them each two quarters. Andy wanted me to put them in the slot. Owen dropped them down the slot himself.

Getting into the car is now a process with several steps. We need to unlock the doors (sometimes both mommy and daddy’s doors), climb into the van, get daddy’s glasses / sunglasses out, then climb into the carseats and buckle in. More and more the boys want to do all the steps by themselves.

Owen enjoys getting my glasses out and putting them on me. He also is very good at buckling himself into his carseat–he can even tighten the strap if I hand it to him!

Both boys enjoy working in the garden. They water and help weed. They also like to dig–we have to steer them away from the strawberries on occasion.

Owen has started bringing in the newspaper in the morning and taking it out of its plastic bag. Andy is now helping, so they each get one job (bringing in the paper or taking it out of its wrapper).

Owen is our cellphone expert. He knows how to bring up “recently dialed calls” and call the first one on the list on both of our phones. He has also managed to get onto the web with Nancy’s phone. She said, “What was he looking for?”

I said, “Thomas videos.”

Nancy found videos of Thomas the Tank on the web, which they boys like to watch.

New words: kaboombi (means: fall down), aikido (rolling), catch.
