Home Depot

April 9, 2007

Home Depot is one of the boys’ favorite spots. They like to drive the tractors (i.e. climb up in the seat on the riding lawnmowers). So on Saturday, after kissing Nancy goodbye so she could go to weaving, the boys and I went to Home Depot. Guess who suggested that?

The boys played on the tractors for a little while, until one of the Home Depot employees stopped and said, “Did you know about the children’s clinic that’s going on?” I took the boys over to find out that they were building race cars. Andrew and Owen helped me build two race cars–one for each of them. There’s a picture of one of the race cars in the pictures section. We’re going to try to make the monthly clinic part of the routine, at least when we have the first Saturday free.

We went to Abby’s birthday party on Saturday. The boys ran around in the backyard the entire time except for when they were eating cake and ice cream.

Nancy took the boys to church last week and went to the Easter egg hunt. Apparently, Andrew didn’t want to wait for his age group, so he went with the older kids. A nice lady took him by the hand and helped him out while Nancy watched Owen.

The boys got to pretend to be ducks at Gymboree on Saturday. They really enjoyed it.

Andrew said his first six-word sentence: Andrew Owen take nap in there. Also, Andrew is becoming “Andy”.

New words: lawnmower, strawberry (used to be just smacking of the lips), goldilocks three bears, choc (chocolate), egg (which contains choc ;-) ), candy, new, jump (both for themselves and when they throw things up in the air–”shovel jump” means the plastic shovel went flying in the air), garbageman, ivy, hello.

The kids have been spending a lot of time outside, depending on the weather. In Oregon, that means they’re outside when it’s not pouring down rain (drizzling is okay). They even helped us weed a bit yesterday. They learned “ivy is bad, fern is good”.

In addition to learning new words, the boys are talking a lot more and are using more complete sentences. Also, you can see the reasoning going on. If you tell Owen something (like “you have to have shoes on”) you can see him trying to find a loophole (”hmmm, do they have to be on my feet?”).

Mimi and Papa bought the boys frog coats and frog boots. We finally took some pictures this time.

And now, the best part:
