More changes
March 24, 2006
Every day there are more changes. The boys walk more each day and crawl less. They are even starting to navigate difficult territory (like going over mommy or daddy) by walking rather than crawling. Also, their hands are starting to come down to their sides as they walk–this is the transition from “toddling” to true walking. And with the hands coming down, they can now comfortably carry objects in their hands.
Owen’s little cut is just about gone–just a little redness left on his cheek (you will see it in some of the pictures). Owen has had a breakthrough this week–he is starting to share more now (especially with mommy and daddy–not so much with brother). He is also starting to pick things up. He handed me a sock today, and he was helping Nancy clean up yesterday (okay, he picked up one or two items, but that’s still better than none). Owen has also learned to say “all gone”. We usually use that with food or a bottle. Andrew said “blanket” (or a close approximation thereof) tonight.
We have used Karoline’s Nannies twice now. The first time was last Thursday. We had them scheduled to come in anyway, but Nancy came down sick. I took the day off (sort of), but still managed to get a full day’s work in between starting before the boys woke up, working while they napped, and then working while the nanny was here. We had a nanny out again tonight so that Nancy and I could go see a movie. We went to see “The Pink Panther.” We thought it was hilarious, but keep in mind that we’ve been home with the boys for a year now, so our judgement may be a little off. It is not a remake of the original, which is good. It has been updated and set in the current time (the Internet is mentioned several times).
Going to sleep has been off and on this week. In the first part of the week, the boys went to sleep at home easily and early with no driving involved. The past couple of days we have had to resort to driving for at least Andrew and sometimes for Owen as well. Hopefully things will start getting back to normal over the weekend and we can continue to work on falling asleep downstairs (or even better, falling asleep in their cribs).
That’s about it for us this week. Now on to pictures!
Owen has climbed up on one of his toys. Notice that his cut is getting much beter.

First Birthday
Well, we survived the first birthday party. The kids are now 1 year + 8 days old.
Owen managed to draw the first blood between the two children, on himself. He fell down and nicked his cheek, just out from the eye. No damage to the eye, but the cut is pretty good. The doctor told us what to watch for but said we didn’t need to visit him.
Owen is 24.5 lbs as of last week (official weight at the doctor’s). We estimate Andrew at about 28 lbs. The next visit is on the 27th of March, so we will get full updates on both boys then.
I put a nice heavy box blocking off the area behind the couch so that the kids couldn’t get back there. Andrew managed to turn it so he could get by. Have strong bright kids is a disadvantage sometimes (and it seems like whatever we do only makes them stronger and smarter).
Anyway, here are the latest pictures:
